Franklin’s wisdom for US: Always remember that government officials in democracies perform duties for the public and serve its constituents.
Franklin followed this statement (humorously and accurately) with, “For the former, therefore, to return among the latter was not to degrade but to promote them.”
The people to whom we entrust the operation of our government must understand their role and position, serve in our best interest, and appreciate the opportunity to serve.
Franklin’s call to action for US: Do not elect people who think they are above the people or who do not serve all citizens. Remind officials they are public servants.

“In free governments the rulers are the servants, and the people their superiors and sovereigns.”
